Chapter 110-12-1 of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Rules governs Comprehensive Planning in municipalities and counties within the state. These rules require that a plan be updated every 10 years in order for the municipality or county to remain eligible for grant funding. The Darien and McIntosh County Comprehensive Plans were last updated in 1991.

The Ecological Planning Group of Savannah is currently assisting the City of Darien with development of a Comprehensive Plan Partial Update in accordance with requirements set forth by DCA. The City's Comprehensive Plan Partial Update must be adopted by the Darien City Council in accordance with the deadline of October 31, 2008. The City must submit its Partial Update to the Coastal Georgia RDC by August 30, 2008, to meet this requirement. The schedule to accomplishing this is as follows:

June 19: Post Notice of Public Hearing to be held on July 15

July 8: Draft Comprehensive Plan Partial Update available for public viewing at City Hall

 

City Council Meeting - Adopt Resolution to submit DCA

July 15: Public Hearing

July 30: Final draft of Comprehensive Plan Partial Update sent through RDC to DCA for review

October 21: City Council Meeting - Adopt Comprehensive Plan Partial Update
